Weight: 4.9 grams

Fordite, also known as Detroit agate or Motor City agate, mimics natural agate but is man made entirely from automotive paint. Named after it's origin, the assembly line at Ford Motor Company, this sliver of color is is a byproduct of mass production. It was formed from hundreds of layers of buildup from overspray enamel paint on tracks and skids on which cars were hand spray-painted in the 1960's. This process is now automated and does not leave paint waste; making the fordite on the market today all that remains, and a collector's item.
