Imagine 2 containers of water, one large and full, and one small and empty. If you were to connect a tube between the two, water would begin to flow from the large container. But the amount of water flowing may exceed the small container’s capacity and cause it to burst. This is similar to how electrostatic discharges occur, where the large container is you and the small container is an electronic device, which are typically designed to use tiny amounts of electricity. When you touch the device, the electricity built up in your body may flow into it, which could easily overwhelm and damage it.
