The official state dinosaur of Oklahoma is a species called Acrocanthosaurus atokensis, a large carnivorous theropod. It is named after the location where it was originally discovered—Atoka County, OK.

Location: N. America, concentrated in Oklahoma

Most Acrocanthosaurus specimens have been found throughout Oklahoma, Texas, and Wyoming. It grew up to 38 ft (11.5 m) long from snout to tail tip and weighed over 6 tons fully-grown. Its long, narrow skull was over 4 ft (1.3 m) in length. It was likely an apex predator of its territory.
