Preface:
"Environmental Toxicology has become a full-fledged scientific discipline. Research devoted to aquatic toxicology has certainly kept pace with the mushrooming activity in the other fields in teh new discipline. The rapid development necessitates a periodic review of the knowledge that has been gained on particular topics with emphasis on areas that need further research. This is an objective of the present volume.
This volume deals with the toxicity of many organic and organic contaminants to the aquatic biota. It assesses the response at community, species, tissue, cellular and sub-cellular levels to particular toxicants and covers the mechanisms of uptake, metabolism , and excretion of many toxic pollutants. Changes induced by toxicants in the biochemical and physiological systems of organisms receive special attention. Recent developments in the methodology used in detecting perturbations in life processes of the aquatic biota are also covered.
This volume should be of interest to professionals and graduate students in marine biology, limnology, ecology, and systematics, chemical oceanography, water management, and toxicology. "
